Top 20 Psychology Principles for Teachers

AP Psych folks: hope the test went GREAT for you and your students!

Now that the test is over, maybe there's time to think/talk about other stuff, like this interesting document from the APA:

Top 20 Psychology Principles for Teachers

This interesting document is the result of a LOT of work by the Center for Psychology in Schools of Education (CPSE - part of the APA). TOPSS helped edit the document. I think it's a great example of USING the concepts/theories we talk about in high school psychology in an applied setting - teaching! I'm promoting the use of this document in my district (conversations with other teachers, staff development workshops, etc.) I know the CPSE would love to hear comments from you all, and if you end up using it for something, please let me know!

I almost hesitate to suggest this, because I fear they might get overwhelmed with requests, but what the heck: if you would like to get a printed copy of this booklet along with a POSTER, e-mail Maie Lee at the APA (mlee@apa.org) and request one.

I shared this document with my students in the Teacher Prep program at Rutgers University, Camden for all pre-service teachers. Many of the resources developed by this group should be shared at the college level to students learning "how to teach"!!!!

Speaking of APA. May want to turn the troops loose to investigate the most recent revelations (allegations) about the possible cover up of by APA of the Association's complicity in the tortures which took place at Guantanamo.

Completely agree this should be investigated, Pat - just not sure who "the troops" are! Lots of outside groups are going after the APA's involvement, and the APA has also replied with its own review led by an outside consultant. More to come, for sure.

Steve,
I was thinking about the AP kids since the test is over. Don't know exactly the tack they would take but they might contact APA for comments or some past APA presidents to see what they knew when. I know APA is stonewalling this (claiming they will wait til the review is in) but hs kids may be able to uncover some stuff anyway.
